Paul Carey is a traditionally trained figurative sculptor. He began his artistic career as an apprentice, working for Madame Tussauds Studios. Over a career spanning 40 years, Carey has produced an considerable collection of fine art and commercial commissions. He regularly collaborates with his wife Laura, also a figurative sculptor, under the name of Special Art Effects. Carey has exhibited all over the world, and most recently at the Istanbul Biennale. He is currently exhibiting at the Arter Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey, in an exhibition titled Suppose You Are Not which runs throughout this year. Carey has a substantial knowledge of material science, and uses this to develop his sculpture, currently exploring how raw colour can elevate his work.

About the work
The Northern White Rhinos (Ceratotherium Simum Cottoni) are now extinct in the wild. Only two remaining females are in a sanctuary in East Africa. Its name  ‘White Rhino’ comes about from a misinterpretation (by early English settlers) of the African word ‘wyd’ which means wide not white. This is why the White Rhino is sometimes referred to as the ‘Wide Lipped Rhino’.
